Lip biting is bad -even our own!
This is the photograph of a 20year old girl who is into this bad habit of biting her lower lip. As a result of this habit she has landed up with this lesion –a small swelling which is keeping her awake. No, there does not appear to be cause of any concern as this is just a mucous cyst.
Most of the times, it gets bigger within a few days before bursting out. Then it leaves a painful ulcer which takes 5-7 days to heal.
The exact management of such “traumatic” lesions is that by all means the patient will have to stop the bad habit of biting her lips. Otherwise, these are notorious for recurrence. Apart from being unsightly, there is lot of discomfort when they burst. And above all, unnecessarly leads to Cancer Phobia—-no, it is not at all Cancer.
