Last year when I was in Chennai I used to daily go to Marina Beach in the early morning. Its early morning serenity is beyond description.  With the dawn it starts bustling with activity. A lot number of walkers inspire you also not to just sit down.

Everybody seems to be so full of life and enthusiastic. I saw a lady sitting on the beach with the weighing machine. Many health freaks were checking their weight there. I can’t understand why this gentleman is questioning the accuracy of machine and look at the boldness of the machine owner – the confidence with which she is facing this customer !

I also notice that a lot of sports activities are going on the beach – cricket, football and youngsters are gathering there with their bicycles.

A tea vendor is also around to add spice to this morning scene. He is catering to all souls gathered around  him for whom  he appears to be a “messiah”.

After walking for about 10 minutes I notice a gentleman sitting on a wall with a notice Instant BP /Diabetes Check up. I watch him offering health advice to some people. I sit with him for sometime. He informs me that he charges Rs.50 for the BP and Sugar Check-up. He tells me that he is just doing it as a social service because each strip for checking Blood sugar costs him around thirty rupees.

Overall, I find the environment at the Marina beach is quite health promotive in the early morning – lot of people playing various games inspire you, lady with the weighing machine at least makes one conscious of his/her weight and this instant health check-up man is at least giving a reminder to walkers as to whether they have got their regular annual work-up!

Then I notice a big notice that the sea is so dangerous that so many people have lost their lives swimming.  But if you are so interested in swimming, there is a beautiful  public swimming pool on the beach itself where I saw hundreds of people getting tickets.  And the charges are just nominal so that nobody needs to be deprived of small joys of life!!

I have just given a few details, there are so many things on beach –its early morning beauty, its enchanting ambience, its serenity and tranquility it offers to everybody is just beyond. And unwillingly I return to those boring teaching sessions where everybody boasts of being a bigger gun than the other while Mother Nature always teaches us humility….. humility and just plain humility !

I am looking forward to another visit to this great place !
